Howard & Co., Boston, Mass., series II, N size, 15 jewels, key wind and set gilt plate movement with lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance with gold timing screws, Geneva stopwork and Reeds barrel with maintaining power in a silver, hinged back and bezel, reeded edge, open face case, and Roman numeral, single sunk, white enamel dial, blued steel spade hands, serial #2474, c1860.
CONDITION: CASE: Dents; Dents in cuvette; Dings and pricks; Scratches on outer surface of case; Scratches on inner surface of case; Bow replaced. DIAL: Hairlines in enamel, light, 2:30, 4:00, 8:30, center to seconds bit; Filled chip at edge of seconds bit. HANDS: Oxidation. MOVEMENT PLATES: Minor scratches on plate; Scattered spotting and minor corrosion; Bright work with minor scratches; Bright work with minor oxide; Fourth wheel upper hole jewel replaced, boring enlarged. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks). RARITY: This is a two star watch in Gilbert, Engle and Shugart's `Complete Price Guide to Watches`, uncommon, less than 1000 made.
